OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH) — Legislation has been filed in several states to ban certain food dyes, including in Oklahoma. State Senator Kristen Thompson (R-Edmond) is the lawmaker behind the effort in the Sooner State.

“Senate Bill 4 really came from my experience as a mom,” Thompson said.

It was after a soccer game years ago when Thompson’s son had a red sports drink. Thompson said her son was acting more hyper than normal.

“And so I thought to myself, I wonder if this is the red sports drink. We didn’t keep that kind of stuff in our home. And so the next week, same thing happened, and I knew to ask him at this point, how are you feeling? He said, my insides feel shaky. And so we decided to go ahead and remove anything that was, for the most part, red. That was not natural, of course,” Thompson told FOX 25.
