OKLAHOMA CITY —

Tax-Free Weekend is almost here in Oklahoma, but one item parents are about to head to the store to get isn’t covered: school supplies.

Oklahoma’s Tax-Free Weekend, which is Aug. 1-3, only covers clothing or footwear under $100. School supplies, clothes and footwear meant for “athletic activity or protective use” aren’t covered by the sales tax weekend.

State Sen. Kristen Thompson wants to change that so parents can take advantage of Tax-Free Weekend to save some money when getting back-to-school supplies. She spoke with KOCO 5’s Cameron Sibert about legislation she plans to introduce to help Oklahoma parents. Open the video player above to learn more.
